Shopify WhatsApp integration: carts, orders and COD confirmation
WhatsGrow reads your Shopify products, orders, customers and checkouts, then messages shoppers on WhatsApp when something happens: an order lands, a parcel ships, a cash-on-delivery order needs a yes, or a cart goes quiet.

What does the Shopify WhatsApp integration do?
It copies your Shopify catalogue, orders, customers and abandoned checkouts into WhatsGrow and keeps them current through Shopify webhooks. From that data it sends four WhatsApp automations and gives the AI agent live answers about stock, prices and order status, so customers get replies in the same chat where they ask.
Sync. Orders (created, updated, cancelled), products and checkouts arrive by webhook. A Sync Now button on each store card re-pulls everything, customers included, and the Sync Logs page (open it from the last-sync line on the card) shows every run with error counts.
Four automations: order confirmation, shipping update with carrier and tracking link, cash-on-delivery (COD) confirmation with confirm and cancel buttons, and abandoned-cart recovery. The first three stay off until you switch them on. Recovery shows as enabled by default, but nothing sends until you assign an approved template. A COD order gets the COD confirmation instead of the standard order confirmation.
AI agent tools. Look up an order and its tracking, check stock and price, send a product photo with price and buy link, take an order, and fix the address on an order that has not shipped. See the WhatsApp AI agent.
Revenue Analytics reports COD orders separately from prepaid ones and shows how many orders, and what share, were influenced by a WhatsApp message.
How do I connect Shopify to WhatsGrow?
Switch on the eCommerce pack, open Ecommerce > Store Connections, press Connect Store, pick Shopify and enter your myshopify.com domain. Shopify asks you to approve the app, then returns you to WhatsGrow with the store marked Active. After that, turn on the automations you want and attach an approved template to each.
- In Settings > Industry Pack, choose eCommerce. The Ecommerce menu only appears with this pack on.
- Connect a WhatsApp Business number if you have not already. Automations send from it.
- Go to Ecommerce > Store Connections, press Connect Store, select Shopify, and type your shop domain (
mystore.myshopify.com, or justmystore). Press Connect via Shopify. - Shopify opens the WhatsGrow app inside your Shopify admin. Confirm that you are linking the store to your workspace and approve the permissions. WhatsGrow asks for read access to products, orders, customers and checkouts, plus write access to orders so the AI can create draft orders and correct a shipping address.
- Back on Store Connections, wait for the card to move from Syncing to Active. The counters show Products, Orders, Customers and Carts.
- Open Ecommerce > Automations. Switch on an automation, pick the Template used for this automation, and set the Primary WhatsApp number for ecommerce automations (this selector appears only when you have more than one number connected). Each template shows Draft, Pending, Approved or Rejected; only Approved ones can send.
- Open Ecommerce > Abandoned Recovery > Recovery Settings, check that Recovery Enabled is on, and choose the reminder timing and an approved template.
Honest note on the install step. The product holds back self-serve install until our Shopify App Store listing clears review, so a store we have not staged cannot complete the install by itself. For now the connect screen shows a WhatsApp link and we set the connection up with you. That is our own temporary rule, not a Shopify limit.

What can I automate between Shopify and WhatsApp?
Three flows cover most stores: reminders for abandoned checkouts, a confirm-or-cancel step for COD orders, and shipping updates with tracking. Each one starts from a Shopify event, sends an approved template from your WhatsApp number, and hands the conversation to your inbox or AI agent when the customer replies.
Abandoned checkout to WhatsApp reminders
TriggerA shopper reaches checkout, leaves a phone number, and does not finish.
- Shopify sends the checkout to WhatsGrow, which stores it as a cart with its recovery link.
- By default the first reminder goes out after 1 hour, the second after 24 hours and the third after 72 hours. You can send up to 3, each with its own delay and optionally its own template.
- The default wording ends with "Reply STOP to unsubscribe".
- When Shopify creates the order, the sequence stops.
ResultShoppers with a phone on the checkout get up to three nudges that link straight back to their cart. Carts without a phone number are skipped.
COD order to confirm or cancel
TriggerAn order arrives whose payment gateway is cash on delivery.
- WhatsGrow detects COD from the order, then sends your COD template with confirm and cancel buttons.
- If the customer does not answer, one reminder goes out after 2 hours by default. You can change the delay between 30 minutes and 24 hours.
- A tap on Confirm sends your "Reply when confirmed" text. A tap on Cancel sends your cancel text and, by default, notifies you.
ResultYou find out about fake or abandoned COD orders before the courier does, which is the point of the feature.
Shipped, tracked, and "where is my order?"
TriggerYou fulfil an order in Shopify with a tracking number.
- WhatsGrow sees the fulfilment and sends the shipping template with carrier, tracking link and tracking number.
- Later the customer asks where the parcel is. The AI agent looks the order up by number, or finds their latest order, and answers with the status and tracking.
- Anything it cannot answer goes to a human in the shared inbox.
ResultFewer "where is my order" messages reach your team, and the ones that do arrive with the order already attached.
What are the limits of the Shopify integration?
The main limits are Meta rules and one temporary product rule. Business-started messages must use approved templates, recovery needs a phone number, and WhatsGrow does not edit your products or stock. Self-serve install is also paused until the Shopify App Store listing clears review.
Questions people ask
Can I connect more than one Shopify store?
Yes. Each store gets its own card on Store Connections. The automation switches on the Automations page apply to your first active store, and messages send from the primary WhatsApp number you choose there, or from the number a template was approved on.
Do the automations run without me switching them on?
Not without a template. Order confirmation, shipping updates and COD confirmation are off until you enable them. Abandoned-cart recovery shows as enabled by default, but nothing sends until you assign an approved template, so no customer is messaged before you choose one.
Does this need Zapier or Shopify Flow?
No. WhatsGrow registers Shopify webhooks itself and reads the data directly. If you want to push data to other tools, see the webhooks and API page.
Can customers pay through WhatsApp instead of the Shopify checkout?
Shopify orders are paid on Shopify. For one-off charges outside your store you can send a Stripe or Razorpay link from the inbox on the Growth plan and above, which is covered on the payment links page.
What does it cost?
See pricing for plans. Meta charges separately for template messages, as explained on the API pricing guide.
